Off to meet the forest’s dragon
Castanyer del Drac
- Time
- 1 h 40 min to 2 h 30 min
- Distance
- 3.3 km
- Ascent
- 150 m approx.
About two hours there and back, to the Castanyer del Drac, the dragon’s chestnut: an old, twisted tree that looks a bit like a dragon’s head. It also goes by the name Cap de Dinosaure. You leave through the gate above the pool and pass the Castanyer de les Illes, which people call the thousand-year-old chestnut. The path drops through the woods to the riera del Teix. Past the riera the climb begins: a rock beside the path serves as a viewpoint, and you keep climbing almost all the way to the chestnut. There you turn around and come back the same way. From the riera it is uphill both ways: on to the chestnut going out, and up toward the campsite coming back. Two named chestnuts and a viewpoint in just over three kilometers.

- Parking
- Not needed. You walk out from the campsite.
These are the routes that start at the campsite. You walk them at your own risk: check the forecast before you set off, carry water, and there is no shame in turning back.
