Half an hour to the big chestnut
Castanyer gros
- Time
- 55 min to 1 h 25 min
- Distance
- 1.8 km
- Ascent
- 100 m approx.
About an hour there and back, finishing at a chestnut tree that genuinely impresses. You leave through the gate above the pool and climb to the top of El Fitó, which looks out over the valley. Then the path leaves the dirt track and heads into the chestnut wood as far as the Castanyer gros, the big chestnut, where you turn around and come back the same way. The steepest climb is the one up to El Fitó, short and right at the start. It is the one to do when you arrive, the one that fits before dinner, and the one that works for children.
Along the way
The numbers match the map.
The practical bit
- Dogs
- On a leash. There is livestock loose, wildlife that nests on the ground and small children on the path.
- Parking
- Not needed. You walk out from the campsite.
These are the routes that start at the campsite. You walk them at your own risk: check the forecast before you set off, carry water, and there is no shame in turning back.
